Presentation on centenary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic held at Japanese Nagoya Research University

Baku, May 1, AZERTAC A presentation dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic has been held at the Nagoya International Research University of Japan. The presentation was initiated by the Azerbaijani Embassy. Prior to the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Japan Gursel Ismayilzade met with rector of the Nagoya university Ikuo Kameyama. He highlighted the education system in Azerbaijan. They exchanged views over the prospects for student exchange. Then Ismayilzade made a presentation about Azerbaijan at the conference hall of the university. The event was attended by the university administration, as well as teachers and students. The ambassador spoke about the country’s geographical position, ancient and rich history. He also briefed the audience on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan’s history of independence and the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was established on May 28, 1918, and which was the first secular democratic Republic in the whole Muslim world. The ambassador said that under the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan of May 16, 2017, a series of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic will be held through the country and around the world. He highlighted the ongoing democratic, political and legal and socio-economic reforms in the country. Ambassador Ismayilzade recalled the April 11 presidential election, noting that President Ilham Aliyev was elected as head of the Republic of Azerbaijan by winning more than 86 percent of votes. The event then featured the screening of a video presentation about Azerbaijan.
