President Calls For Germany's Constructive Role In Geneva

Tehran, Oct 8, IRNA – President Hassan Rohani here on Monday expressed hope Monday that Germany, as a member of the group of sextet, would play a constructive role in the upcoming meeting between Iran and G5+1 to be held in Geneva, Switzerland. Rohani made the remarks in a meeting with new German Ambassador to Iran Michael Freiherr von Ungern while receiving his credentials. He further hoped the Geneva meeting on Iran’s nuclear program to be held on October 15-16 would have fruitful outcome. President Rohani stressed importance of Tehran-Berlin relations, hoping the two would witness deepening cooperation in future. As to Iran’s ties with the European Union, the Iranian President wished bilateral relations would further grow. Pointing to Iran as a victim of chemical weapons, Rohani said the country is against using such weapons. Undoubtedly, he said, Iran’s nuclear activities are based on peaceful purposes and Tehran is seeking its nuclear rights within the framework of the international regulations. For his part, the German envoy said his country attaches importance to economic relations with Iran. Lauding Rohani’s recent statements and remarks, he said German public opinion and media are interested in holding talks with the Iranian President./end
