PRESIDENT ELBEGDORJ SPEAKS AT 10TH ASEM SUMMIT

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The leader of Mongolia took the floor to address all who gathered for the 10th ASEM summit on Thursday in Milan, Italy. He congratulated the government of Italy for a successful hosting of the Summit and the Heads of State of Croatia and Kazakhstan for joining ASEM membership. “This summit is taking place at an uneasy time when the world is facing multiple challenges, including a spread of Ebola, regional confrontations and an increasing threat of terrorism. "The 10th summit provides yet another opportunity for the leaders of its member states to discuss, exchange opinions and reach common grounds and positions on this matters of global significance. At the UN General Assembly in New York this September Mongolia expressed its position on climate change issues and called the world community for resolute actions to address them. "Mongolia concurs that the 10th ASEM Summit shall help strengthen cooperation between the countries of Asia and Europe, boost trade, energy and investment relations and further promote sustainable development. Mongolia has been putting forward certain initiatives in these areas. For instance, in Dushanbe in September this year, Russia, China and Mongolia held a first Tri-Parties Highest Level Meeting, where their leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in transit transport and infrastructure and eliminate barriers to trade. I do believe that strengthened cooperation between China, Russia and Mongolia shall make a tangible contribution to Asia and Europe even closer. "Contributing to strengthening peace and stability in North East Asia is a priority of Mongolia’s national security policy. Mutually trusting and confident dialogues between countries are an important cornerstone in our relations. In this conjunction, within the confines of the Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on North-East Asia Security I put forward some time ago, Mongolia has successfully hosted and organized the Meeting of North-East Asian Women-Parliamentarians, International Researchers’ conference and the Meeting of the Governors of Cities of North East Asia. "Once again, let me reiterate my confidence that the 10th ASEM Summit shall play a crucial role in expanding the scope and magnitude of Asia-Europe relations and cooperation," said the President Elbegdorj.
