President: Iran Advocates Security Of PG

Tehran, Oct 21, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that the Islamic Republic of Iran advocates security of the Persian Gulf region and is keen on progress of the regional nations. President Ahmadinejad made the remarks in an interview with al-Kuwait TV. There is no doubt that the world is in dire need of new order, as the era of colonialism and capitalism is over as they failed to bring prosperity for world people. The current global system should be revised to help resolve problems of the nations, he said. World people should assist one another and help promote cooperation away from challenges, he said. President Ahmadinejad said that the governments must uphold justice, affection, and spirit of serving nations. The Asian continent is very rich in terms of culture and natural resources so that the Asian nations should seize the opportunity to broaden cooperation with other nations in other continents, he said. "World nations have no dispute or differences but the politicians do have, because they seek the strategy of divide and rule." Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit in Kuwait City is a golden opportunity to deepen ties and relations among nations, he said. On Bushehr nuclear power plant, he said there are over 500 similar nuclear power plants in various parts of the world and it poses no threat to anyone and there is no reason for any concern about Bushehr nuclear power plant. He said that Bushehr province has over 12 million population and the power plant aims to generate electricity for them. The Western governments have waged media hype on Iran's peaceful nuclear program which is baseless and totally fabricated, he said. President Ahmadinejad said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is against nuclear weapons as a religious principle and that Islam prohibits possessing and using weapons of mass destruction in war. Iran's peaceful nuclear program is a mere excuse for the western governments to settle scores with Iranian nation for their insistence on having a government independent of the hegemonic powers. "The Americans and the western governments never let other nations achieve success and development which run counters to their interests. Iran believes that promotion of justice and friendship will be to the benefit of all countries even the US and the western states." President Ahmadinejad said that Iran and Kuwait are friends and consider interests of other nations as their own. On toughening economic sanctions against Iran, he said Iran with a 7,000 years of civilization will never be uprooted through such hostile measures and those who think they can do the job are ignorant of the history. Iran never seeks enmity with others and those who impose sanctions could have been benefitted more from friendship, said President Ahmadinejad. "Iran has a big economy with the annual turn over dlrs 1,000 billion and foreign trade constitutes a small part of its economy so that sanctions will not jeopardize our independence. "The Western governments are not afraid of nuclear bombs as they know that Iran does not favor proliferation of the nuclear weapons. If they were opposed to nuclear bombs they should have been destroyed their WMDs stockpiles, but, we see they have increased WMDs stockpiling and also have equipped the with the lethal weapons." On regional developments, President Ahmadinejad said Iran believes that it is among the legitimate rights of all nations to have freedom, justice, and respect and elect own governments democratically. On Syrian developments, he said that Iran is friendly with the Syrian people and respect them and believe that it is their legitimate right to elect their own governing system without interference of others. "Syrian problem should be resolved through negotiations and national reconciliation and military solution is the worst option to this end." President Ahmadinejad said that all should observe impartiality in dealing with the Syrian problems and any casualties from any sides will raise hatred and enmity among the people. The Islamic Republic of Iran tries to invite warring factions to resolve their disputes through peaceful means, he said. The same situation is currently underway in Bahrain, and we believe that it the people who should choose their government and this should be done through dialog, said the Iranian president. Since Eid al-Adha is approaching, he called on the warring factions in Syria to declare truce and no one should violate it to help hold a free election in the country. Ties between Iran and Kuwait are very friendly and nothing can hurt it, he said adding that Iran regards Kuwait's success, development, dignity and independence as its own./end
