President Jokowi Leaves For Myanmar

Beijing, Nov 11 (Antara) - Indonesian President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo left China for Myanmar on Tuesday evening to attend the ASEAN Summit and East Asia Summit on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. The president and his entourage aboard the presidential plane left the Beijing Capital International Airport after attending a series of meetings on the sidelines of the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit held in Yanqi Lake, some 50 kilometers northeast of Beijing. Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Soegeng Rahardjo, Indonesian Defense Attache Colonel Samuel Kowaas, and Chinese officials bid farewell to the president and his entourage, including First Lady Iriana, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Sofyan Djalil, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto, and deputy chairperson of the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) GKR Hemas. While in China, President Jokowi paid a courtesy visit to President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang. The Indonesian leader also held bilateral talks with US President Barack Obama, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, and Vietnamese President Trang Tun Sang. He also addressed a meeting of 500 representatives from the world`s leading companies and APEC CEO Summit 2014. During the meetings, President Jokowi highlighted his government`s maritime programs to make Indonesia a global maritime axis and invited the world`s leading companies to invest in Indonesia`s infrastructure sector. Jokowi is also expected to raise the issue of maritime axis during the ASEAN Summit and the East Asia Summit. "Many have asked about what is our maritime agenda with regard to `sea toll` and what the maritime axis is. I will explain to them later," he added.
