President Receives Omani Majlis Speaker

Tehran, April 15, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, by referring to closeness of Iran-Oman policies and viewpoints on international and regional arena, said that the two countries can play a constructive and useful role in strengthening regional peace and security. According to the Presidential Office Website, President Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Oman Speaker of Majlis al-Shura Khalid bin Hilal bin Nasir al-Mawaly here on Saturday evening, by referring to deep and old ties between the two nations said that our relations are based on our beliefs, so they are very strong. Referring to enemiesˈ efforts to create discord among nations, Ahmadinejad said that cooperation between the two countries is more necessary now and the two countries by standing close to each other can neutralize enemiesˈ plots. He continued that thwarting enemiesˈ conspiracies is the common responsibility of all regional nations, especially Iran and Oman. He added that existing capacities in the two countries indicate that Iran and Oman can be useful and effective in this concern. Referring to Syria and Bahrain, the president stressed that we are worried about situations in Syria and Bahrain and we believe nations should take decision for themselves and war has no result except demolishing, massacre and deepening hatred, while disputes should be settled by dialogue and understanding. He called Iran-Oman ties expanding and called for necessity of developing relations and cooperation between Tehran and Muscat, adding that there are great opportunities to promote ties. Referring to good relations between parliaments of the two countries, President Ahmadinejad said that expansion of parliamentary ties can be very useful for increasing cooperation between the two states. Al-Mawaly, for his part, called mutual relations historical and by referring to Iranˈs policies concerning international and regional issues said that Oman considers Iranˈs stances in these concerns well-intentioned and supports them. He added because of Iranˈs excellent situation in the region and in the Persian Gulf, Oman looks at Iran with respect and tries to take steps toward closeness with Tehran./end
