President of Republic of Korea receives OANA delegation led by AZERTAC

Seoul, November 7, AZERTAC President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in has received heads of news agencies attending the 17th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) in Seoul. Organized by Korean Yonhap news agency and chaired by AZERTAC, the General Assembly brings together 32 news agencies from 28 countries. AZERTAC news agency, a member of OANA since 2004, has been chairing this organization since 2016. Established under the auspices of UNESCO in 1961, OANA is one of the world’s largest media organizations. At the meeting with the delegation led by AZERTAC’s Chairman of Board Aslan Aslanov, President Moon Jae-in said news agencies played a huge role in ensuring peace and stability. The President stressed the importance of news agencies amid a growing challenge of fake news. OANA president Aslan Aslanov gave an insight into the conference on the theme “New challenges for journalism: technological innovations and reliability of news stories” and the General Assembly. “Technological innovations both create new challenges for agencies and open up new opportunities as well. Holding these discussions in one of the world`s leading ICT countries, the Republic of Korea, is very important for us. During meetings we exchange viewes over public trust in media, and threats posed by fake news. These negative factors threaten fundamental principles of journalism,” said Aslan Aslanov. President Moon Jae-in answered questions of President of the Yonhap Cho Sung-boo, Vice President of Xinhua News Agency Liu Siyang, Director General of Russian TASS news agency Sergey Mikhaylov, and VNA's Director General Nguyen Duc Loi. He also wished OANA member agencies success and thanked OANA president, AZERTAC’s Chairman of Board Aslan Aslanov for his contributions to the development of the organization.
