President Rohani Stresses Constructive Role Of G77, NAM

Tehran, Sept 25, IRNA – President Hassan Rohani stressed the need for the G77 and the Non-Aligned Movement member states to have a constructive role in world arena. The president made the remark in a meeting with Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama here on Tuesday at the sideline of the ongoing summit in the United Nations General Assembly. During the meeting, he stressed the importance of ties with Fiji as the head of the 131-member G77 grouping for Iran and expressed Tehran’s readiness to expand mutual ties. Expressing unhappiness over the ongoing unrest in the sensitive region of the Middle East, he lauded efforts of the G77 and the NAM member states to establish peace and stability in the region. He further lauded great potentials existing in the two countries to develop ties especially in tourism. The Fijian prime minister expressed happiness over his meeting with President Rohani and called for further boost in friendly relations with Iran. He outlined his country’s humanitarian efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and hoped they would be fruitful through the cooperation of such countries as Iran which currently holds the NAM presidency./end
