President Rouhani Urges OIC To Help Stop Violence Against Muslims

Tehran, Feb 5, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to help stop massacre of and violence against Muslims as its most prime mission. The President made the remarks in a meeting with the newly-elected OIC Secretary General Iyad Amin Madani in Tehran. Pointing out that Iran attaches importance to ties with Islamic countries in particular with neighboring ones, Rouhani said that the Islamic world holds high expectations of the OIC. He said all should try to meet the demands of the Islamic Ummah. The President further urged all OIC member states to play a more active role in decision making areas. Noting that enemies have been working to create an image of Islam as a religion advocating violence, he said that the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation has to correct this wrong portrait. Rouhani said the OIC should introduce the benevolent face of Islam and its holy Prophet to the world to foil the propaganda of the enemies of Islam who have been promoting Islamopobia in the world using extremist elements to achieve their goals. He called on the OIC to help consolidate unity among the Islamic nations and hinder insults to the views and values of the Muslims. The President also underlined the need for liberation of the Holy Qods from the Zionist regime occupation and return of homeless Palestinian nation to its homeland. The OIC official too stressed that the organization needs the support of the Islamic Republic of Iran to settle the differences within the Islamic world. He also pointed to the need for taking practical steps to bring Islamic states closer and pave the way for dialogue between nations and governments in the Islamic countries./end
