President: UNSC Formation Severed Global Clashes

New York, Sept 25, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said insecurity increased worldwide after the formation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The President made the remarks during a meeting with a group of students and scholars of the US universities here Monday evening. He said certain countries enjoy more rights than others, stressing that this in itself prevents the international security from improving. Referring to the current world situation, he said the approaches towards power and politics should change and be based on humanitarian values and principles of respect and kindness towards all human kinds so that a world could be created devoid of poverty, discrimination, occupation and threats. After the President’s remarks, one of the students made a reference to the history of the Iran-US relations and the three incidents which resulted in tanishing relations between the two sides and asked what and how effective measures could be taken to mend Tehran-Washington ties. The president said the question was one of the most important issues of the world today because both the US and Iran as two influential countries have been countering for the past 33 years in a way that affected regional and international developments. He said the US supported the toppled Pahlavid regime in Iran despite knowing that it imprisoned and tortured dissidents and denied social and political freedom. Ahmadinejad said Washington continued its hostilities towards the Iranian nation after the 1979 Islamic Revolution by causing unrest, border clashes, masterminding assassinations and separatist activities as well as hatching plots to stop its peaceful nuclear program. He said all these created a negative mentality among Iranians towards the US while cooperation would have benefited both countries. He stressed that in order to improve the Tehran-Washington relations, decision-makers in the US have to come to the point that conditions in Iran would never be the same as the pre-revolution years. Asked about current situation in Syria, the Iranian President noted that presence of foreign forces in the region has never helped security establish in the region. He stressed that Iran is quite capable of safeguarding security in the Persian Gulf by itself. He also pointed to the extensive poverty in the world and said while over 1.2 billion people are living in absolute poverty across the world, big powers keep spending huge amounts of money on arms competitions. Commenting on tensions existing between Iran and the Zionist regime, Ahmadinejad said based on the history, the Tel Avive regime has created five wars in the region during the past 65 years since its formation and kept threatening its neighbors, imprisoning thousands of Palestinians, demolishing Palestinians’ houses, killing defenseless people in addition to occupying Palestine as well as parts of Syria, Lebanon and Jordan. He said Iran is by no means worried about the Zionist regime's threats because all those who know history and geography confess that the threats lack any strategic values. He said the region will be able to enjoy peace and stability only if the rights of the Palestinian nation are materialized. On the defamatory film of the Holy Prophet of Islam, President Ahmadinejad said new rules should be set up to prohibit sacrileges to religions. However, he noted, the vigilance of religious leaders prevented the issue from becoming a war among religions. Asked about the numerous inspections of the International Atomic Energy Agency of Iran’s nuclear facilities, he said Tehran has been cooperating with the organization beyond the scale demanded by regulations. However, he stressed, experience proved that the IAEA illegal demands kept increasing any time Iran cooperated with it beyond the ordinary laws. Stating that Iran’s all nuclear activities are supervised by the IAEA inspectors, he said exactly for the same reason that the US backed Saddam Hussein in attacking Iran, it is unwilling to let the issue of Iranian nuclear program be resolved. He pointed out that 5+1 members admit during private meetings that Iran is not after manufacturing nuclear bombs and it is the US that causing problems for Iran./end
