Problem of export control over Iran remains unsettled, says diplomat

VIENNA, May 15. /TASS/. Iran and the P 5+1 countries -- five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany -- have failed to coordinate approaches to the problem of export control as regards Teheran, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said here on Thursday. "The problem still belongs to the category of unsettled ones," he said. "One of the reasons why it is so difficult is that it immediately confronts us with a situation where one can't ignore expert standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency and existing export control regulations." Ryabkov said this problem was not on the agenda of recent discussions between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. "We didn’t get as far as export control because the problem is knotty enough," he admitted. One of the difficulties was to bring converge several tracks of negotiations. "Talks are underway in the P5+1 and Iran format, for instance, and no one knows exactly how to make these tracks match one another," Ryabkov said. Read more
