PROGRAMME TO BE IMPLEMENTED TO SAVE DOCUMENTARY CULTURAL HERITAGE

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A programme on saving documentary cultural heritage was approved by the cabinet during its regular meeting on Monday. To be realized in two phases as 2015-2017 and 2017-2022, the programme includes complex works on creating a data of cultural documentary heritage and putting them into a circulation of scientific works. Measures for saving, propagandizing and restoring them are included in the programme as well. Documentary heritage of culture, which are stored in books, videos and audio, are considered as important sources for scientific works because they contain the national history, language, culture, traditions and custom. Due to lack of proper storage and facilities, the conditions of the documentary cultural heritage is worsening. For example, 85 percent of three million rare and rarest books, kept in the National Central Library, were more or less damaged, as showed the 2008 state registration, also foreign experts warn that a half of the books might get completely destroyed in 20-30 years, the same fate is expecting books and documentary materials kept in the Institute of Linguistics and Literature at the Academy of Sciences.
