Progress seen at latest meetings on Iran’s nuclear program - diplomatic source

VIENNA, June 25. /TASS/. There is progress at the talks between Iran and the six international negotiators (P5+1) in Vienna, a source in one of the delegations told TASS Thursday. "The latest meetings set [us] for a positive mood," he said. "There is progress, but the issue of sanctions remains one of those that are hard to be solved." "But we state yet that everything proceeds in a normal mode," the source said. The P5+1 is the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France - plus Germany. The Austrian capital is hosting the final round of talks between Tehran and the P5+1 at the level of political directors, which kicked off today. The deadline for working out of a comprehensive agreement is June 30, but the process could be extended by a few days, according to sources. Earlier, a diplomatic source in the Western delegation told TASS that the ministerial meeting is scheduled for June 28-29. Iran says it needs nuclear power to generate electricity, but Western powers led by the United States claim Tehran's eventual aim is to create nuclear weapons. At a meeting in Vienna in November 2014, the P5+1 and Tehran agreed to extend the deadline for a deal in the talks on Iran’s nuclear program to June 30, 2015. A regular round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 in Lausanne on April 2, 2015 ended with the conclusion of a joint comprehensive action plan on the Iranian nuclear program, to be adopted by the end of June. As the plan is being implemented, all political and economic sanctions are to be lifted from Tehran. Meanwhile, in April media quoted Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as saying that if sanctions are not lifted first, Iran will not sign the nuclear deal with the six international negotiators.
