Prominent Cleric Advises Shiite Mourners To Avoid Sectarian Discord

Qom, Oct 28, IRNA – Ayatollah Nasser Makarem-Shirazi in a message on the occasion of mourning month of Moharram asked Imam Hussain's mourners to refrain from acts and words that sow seed of discord among Muslims and provide pretexts for the enemies. “It seems as if this year’s mourning ceremonies on Ashoura day (10th of lunar month of Moharram) on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussain (P) will be more glorious than ever before, but I hope the mourners, speakers and religious hymn vocalists will heed a few points, including mourning traditionally…” said the ayatollah in his message. He also advised the mourners, and particularly the youth, not to permit the political motivated people and those with factional tendencies to affect their mourning rituals and to refrain from acting in a way to sow the seeds of discord among the followers of different Islamic schools of thought, which will be to the benefit of the enemies of Islam. He further stressed that insulting the sanctities of the others should be prevented, since under the current conditions doing so will cost the Shiite Muslims heavily and benefit the enemies of Islam around the globe./end
