Proper Foreign Policy Will Change Worlds Approach Toward Iran: MP

Tehran, Aug 21, IRNA – Adoption of a proper foreign policy will change the worlds approach toward Iran and promote economic and political relations with other countries, a lawmaker said on Tuesday. Mansour Haghighatpour who is deputy chairman of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament told IRNA that appointment of Mohammad Javad Zarif, with a lot of knowledge and experience in the field of foreign policy, as new Foreign Minister will yield good results. He said that the new government will work to improve Iranian influence in the international and regional relations. Avoiding tensions with regional countries is high on the agenda of Iranian foreign policy, he said, adding it seems that the new government will accelerate the process of improving relations with the European governments based on the principles and mutual respect. On Iran's nuclear policy, he said that if the western governments engaged in nuclear talks with Iran and recognized Iranian legitimate rights, other issues will be resolved. He quoted President Hassan Rohani as saying that Iran will not give up nuclear achievements. Confidence-building is not a one-way road, Haghighatpour said, adding that reaching an agreement on Iranian nuclear issue requires certain steps to be taken by Western governments. He criticized the Western governments approach toward Iran as they escalated sanctions on Iran while they were talking about the nuclear dispute./end
