Putin’s visit to Cairo on Feb 9-10 to focus on Russia-Egypt counter-terrorism efforts

MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. International issues and counter-terrorism efforts will feature high on the agenda in a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin to Egypt on February 9-10, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said on Thursday. "The leaders of Russia and Egypt will primarily discuss ways to improve the situation in the Middle East and North Africa - in Iraq, Syria and Libya - alongside the Israeli-Palestinian settlement," Ushakov said, adding that the two states’ concerted efforts in the international arena, particularly those aimed at fighting terrorism, would also be subject to negotiation. "A whole range [of counter-terrorism measures] will be discussed, including the issue of where Islamic State gets its oil it largely depends on," he said. Particular attention will be paid to bilateral cooperation and development of trade and economic ties of the two countries, Ushakov added. There are plans to sign several documents, including a memorandum of understanding between Russia's economic development ministry and Egypt's investment ministry designed to attract investments and involve Russian companies in building facilities on Egyptian territory. The document will be signed by Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev on behalf of Russia. Read more
