Putin highlights development of ties with Tajikistan, says spokesman

MOSCOW, April 17. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin expects that strategic partnership and allied relations between Russia and Tajikistan will continue developing, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday ahead of Putin’s talks at the Kremlin with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon later in the day. "Tajikistan is our partner, a very important state," Peskov said, noting that President Putin attached great importance to relations with Tajikistan. "The aim is to continue building strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries," Peskov said. According to the spokesman, the talks will be held first in a narrow format and then the delegations will join them. Bilateral documents are planned for the signing and the presidents will make statements for the press. Emomali Rahmon is on an official visit in Russia from April 16 to 17. On Wednesday, he meets with President Putin. Earlier, Russian Ambassador in Dushanbe Igor Lyakin-Frolov told TASS that the talks would focus on trade and economic cooperation. According to him, the documents the two countries are expected to sign will particularly make it possible to improve the supply of Tajik agricultural goods to Russia.
