Putin, Kyrgyz president to discuss bilateral cooperation on Nov 28 - Lavrov

BISHKEK, November 27. /TASS/. Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Sooronbay Jeenbekov of Kyrgyzstan will hold a meeting in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on Thursday to discuss the implementation of instructions they handed down following their previous meetings, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, addressing students and professors at the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy on Wednesday. "Our relations are those of allies and strategic partners," he pointed out. "I think we have a very mature relationship at the moment. President Putin and President Jeenbekov will hold another meeting on the sidelines of the CSTO [Collective Security Treaty Organization] summit tomorrow. They will compare their positions and assess the implementation of the instructions stemming from the agreements reached at their previous meetings," Lavrov added. The Russian top diplomat went on to say that cooperation between Moscow and Bishkek was progressing in all areas. "It particularly covers economic ties, including numerous bilateral projects, as well as integration processes within the EAEU [Eurasian Economic Union]," he specified. "It also concerns defense and security. We are implementing a number of programs, which include efforts to improve the defense capabilities of the Kyrgyz armed forces and train military personnel. It is particularly important in light of the fight against terrorism and drug trafficking, given that the Afghan issue remains unresolved," Lavrov emphasized. On November 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin will participate in a CSTO Collective Security Council meeting in Bishkek. Read more
