Putin praises China’s role in SCO development

BEIJING, June 8. /TASS/. Moscow will continue to promote Russian-Chinese interests within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Russian-Chinese talks on Friday. "I would like to note our joint efforts in the work on regional platforms, including within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. We note major efforts by our Chinese friends to develop that organization, make it truly global and will help promote our joint interests in this area," Putin said. The Russian head of state was confident that the SCO summit scheduled to be held in Qingdao on June 9-10 will be a success. The Russian president described his talks with Xi Jinping as useful, adding that the parties discussed a wide array of issues related to bilateral cooperation and the international agenda. For his part, Xi Jinping stressed that Russia and China always saw each other as a foreign policy priority regardless of the international situation and are stepping up cooperation in trade, economy, investment, energy and humanitarian spheres. "We are actively involved in global affairs and global governance and play a leading role in shaping a new type of international relations," he said. Read more
