Putin to present Russia’s position on key problems in UN

MOSCOW, September 28. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will on Monday pay a brief visit to the UN Headquarters. During his stay in New York that will last about 10 hours, Putin will present at the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly his vision of the modern situation in the world and ways to resolve the most acute problems, and will hold separate meetings with US President Barack Obama, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and some other counterparts. Putin told US journalist Charlie Rose in an interview with CBS and PBS that he would speak about reforming the United Nations, call for uniting efforts in fighting against terrorism and assess the current situation in international relations. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who will head Russia’s delegation after Putin leaves New York, said earlier the Russian leader’s speech would be "very substantive." The president will outline Russia’s stance on the most acute problems of the modern world and the systemic issues arising from the attempts of hindering the objective process of forming a new multipolar world order, Lavrov said. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Putin had prepared his speech for around a month. Russia’s president last spoke in the UN in September 2009. The presidential post was then held by Dmitry Medvedev. Read more
