Putin to receive credentials from 15 ambassadors

MOSCOW, November 26./TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will receive credentials from the ambassadors of 15 states at a ceremony in the Kremlin on Thursday, the Kremlin press service said. He said Putin would receive credentials from the ambassadors of South Korea, Zimbabwe, Palestine, South Ossetia, Mauritius, Panama, Sudan, Ireland, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Estonia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sweden, Malaysia and Israel. Russian president’s aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters earlier these diplomats had arrived in Moscow starting from mid-summer. In diplomacy, credentials, also known as a letter of credence, are documents that ambassadors, diplomatic ministers, plenipotentiary, and chargés d'affaires provide to the government to which they are accredited, for the purpose, chiefly, of communicating to the latter the envoy's diplomatic rank. It also contains a request that full credence be accorded to his official statements. Until his credentials have been presented and found in proper order, an envoy receives no official recognition. Typically, about 15 ambassadors recently arrived in Russia are invited for the ceremony in the Kremlin. After they hand over their letters of credence to the Russian leader, he welcomes them with a brief speech and invites them to lift a glass of champagne to mark the beginning of the diplomatic careers in Russia.
