Pyongyang Int'l Symposium-2018 on Era and Music Arts Held

Pyongyang, April 13 (KCNA) -- The Pyongyang International Symposium-2018 on the era and the music arts was held at the People's Palace of Culture on Thursday. Present there were Pak Chun Nam, minister of Culture who is chairman of the organizing committee of the First Pyongyang International Vocal Competition, officials, creators and artistes in the field of culture and arts, teachers and researchers of art education organs, jury members of the competition, honorary guests, members of the art troupes and delegations to the 31st April Spring Friendship Art Festival. A congratulatory address was made at the symposium to be followed by speeches. Speakers praised leader Kim Jong Il as an outstanding great master in ideology and theory as he gave scientific clarification of the nature and mission of music and, on this basis, put the music arts on the status of humanics. They deeply explained and proved the scientific accuracy and validity of Kim Jong Il's Juche-oriented ideology and theory on music arts, and referred to the valuable experience gained in the course of creating the Korean-style operas which put the interrelationship between the words and melodies in vocal music pieces and the musical description on a high level. Noting that it arises as a very important issue to strictly embody national identity in creation of music, they said vocalists can become popular singers only when they have proper aesthetic views and their performance suits to the national emotion and modern tastes. A letter to the respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un was adopted at the symposium. -0-
