Rafsanjani’s daughter put in solitary confinement

TEHRAN,Jan.1(MNA) – Faezeh Hashemi, the daughter of Iran’s Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, who is serving a six-month sentence, has been put in solitary confinement for disorderly conduct, Judiciary spokesman Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejeii said on Monday. “Each prison in the country has its internal regulations, and the prisoners are obliged to obey the rules,” said Mohseni-Ejeii, who was speaking during his regular press briefing. “Taking this point into account, prison authorities have transferred her to solitary confinement as punishment,” he added. In January 2012, the court sentenced Faezeh Hashemi to six months in prison for spreading propaganda against the Islamic system. She was also banned from having political, cultural, and media activities for five years. Elsewhere in his remarks, Mohseni-Ejeii said that an indictment will be issued for Mehdi Hashemi, Rafsanjani’s son, in the near future, adding, “As soon as the indictment is issued, efforts will be made to hold the court hearing.” Mehdi Hashemi was released from prison on December 17 on a bail of 100,000,000,000 rials ($8,156,606). He faces charges of inciting unrest after the 2009 presidential election.
