Rafsanjani Denies Remarks Attributed To Him On Syria

Tehran, Sept 8, IRNA – Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani on Saturday denied remarks attributed to him on Syria. He strongly criticized the nonperformance of some domestic media which move in line with enemies interests. Proliferation of weapons of mass destruction such as chemical weapons by any individual, group or government in all religions and schools of thought mainly Islam are denounced and forbidden, he said. The western governments provided Iraq with chemical weapons during its imposed war on Iran and authorized the criminal Baathist regime to use them against civilians, Rafsanjani said. Inspired by our school of thought, we never retaliated Iraqi chemical attacks and condemned its use, he said. Global arrogance seeks to dominate Islamic countries in the region and for this reason it has threatened Syria with direct military intervention in the country, he said. He strongly condemned the threats made by some western countries and the US and said unfortunately it is about two years that Syria has been scene of civil war with its people suffering pains and unprecedented displacement, he said. The enemies under the pretext of chemical weapons use have threatened assault Syria, Rafsanjani said./end
