Rafsanjani: US Congress cannot violate JCPOA

Tehran, Dec 6, IRNA – Chairman of Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Tuesday that Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is an international document approved by United Nations Security Council and the US Congress cannot breach it unilaterally. He made the remarks in a speech to university students to mark Students Day. Rafsanjani said that the US is only one of the parties involved in the talks and the other parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action will certainly defend their signatures and political commitments of their governments. Commenting on the context of JCPOA and the unreal fears of certain powers about Iran, he said that their worrisome about made them come to negotiating table and Iran will continue research relying on its indigenous knowledge. He said that Iran has a record of International Thermo nuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Rafsanjani said that one of the greatest achievements of JCPOA is that Iran is considered among the seven major countries used to build the first power plant in France with the sea water as its raw material in 1970s. Recalling the threats faced by Iran, he said that prior to clinching the nuclear deal in July 2015, the US hardliners intended to exercise the same strategy they practiced about Iraq to humiliate the Iranian nation just like the 'oil for food' program. 1378/IRNA
