Red Cross Envoy To Visit Libya To Meet With Kidnapped Iranians

Tehran, Aug 7, IRNA - Director-General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Yves Daccord said on Monday that reports indicate that the Iranian nationals kidnapped in Libya are in good health condition and ICRC is to send a special envoy to Libya to meet with them. The ICRC director-general made the remarks in a telephone conversation with the Head of Iran's Red Crescent Society Abolhasan Faqih on Monday. The ICRC envoy is to help establish contact between the kidnapped Iranian nationals and their families, he said. Expressing regret over the incident, he expressed solidarity with Iran's Red Crescent Society. "We believe ICRC is accountable for the incident and will do our utmost to secure the release of the kidnapped persons," he said. The ICRC special envoy is to visit to Libya in the near future for talks with Libyan Red Crescent Society as well as relevant institutes, he said. ICRC's first priority is to secure the release of the kidnapped Iranians, he said, adding that if this does not happen, they would try to establish contact between the kidnapped persons and their families./end
