Red Shirts to file complaint if new neutral prime minister appointed

BANGKOK, May 11 (TNA) - Pro-government ‘Red Shirt’ movement, the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), reiterated Sunday that it would file complaints against concerned agencies if a new neutral prime minister is appointed under Article 7 of the Constitution. Jatuporn Prompan, chairman of UDD, told pro-government protesters now gathering on Aksa Road in Nakhon Pathom province, near Bangkok, that a demand by Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), asking concerned government agencies to consider on appointing new neutral prime minister, aimed at solving Thailand’s political crisis, cannot be done as caretaker premier Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisarn could still administer the country. Reiterating that UDD protesters would prolong the peaceful rally until they are certain that the country and its democratic system are safe, Mr. Jatuporn told the crowds that what Mr. Suthep had announced that PDRC protesters would achieve victory on Monday would “never happen” because people would not accept Mr. Suthep’s demands. Mr. Jatuporn also asked the Election Commission (EC) to organise a general election as soon as possible and if it cannot,he said the EC members should resign en masse to pave ways for an appointment of new EC members to do the job. UDD protesters are, meanwhile, attending the rally amid hot weather while some 4,000 guards provide security to them. (TNA)
