Registration Of 11th Presidential Election Hopefuls Begins

Tehran, May 7, IRNA – Registration of the hopefuls for the 11th presidential election started Tuesday morning upon an order by Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar. The registration process would continue until May 11. During the five-day period the hopefuls can register from 8am to 18pm each day by attending the Interior Ministry premises in Tehran. According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Constitution, having an Iranian origin and Iranian nationality as well as believing in the principles of the Islamic establishment and official religion of the country along with being a wise and qualified manager with a record of good behavior and acting as a trustee are the prerequisites of enrolling as a candidate of the next presidential election. All hopefuls can register either personally or through their plenipotentiary representatives. The 11th Presidential Election will be held on June 14. The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election, and the Guardian Council vets candidates for qualifications. Meanwhile, election of the fourth term of the City and Rural Councils as well as by-election of the ninth Majlis in four provinces (Tehran, Ilam, Hamedan and Mazandaran) will also be held simultaneously with the June 14 presidential election. In related developments, Experts Assembly by-election will be also held on June 14 in West Azarbaijan and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces./end
