Robocalls Scandal, Major Challenge Of Canadaˈs Extremist Gov't

Tehran, May 28, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi on Tuesday referred to the electoral fraud scandal in Canada as a major challenge for the extremist government of that country which would prove lack of Ottawaˈs political legitimacy. Araqchi made the remarks while commenting on the recent ruling of Canadaˈs Federal Court on the 2011 Canadian federal election voter suppression scandal which is colloquially known as the Robocall scandal. The spokesman said the ruling has indicated lack of a democratic and fair mechanism in Canadaˈs electoral system. He expressed hope that the ruling would help Ottawa adjust its political issues with the real will of its people. Referring to the ruling of the Federal Court which confirmed suppression of voters during the 2011 election, Araqchi said recent comments of the Canadian foreign minister on Iranˈs presidential election were ˈridiculous and an attempt to mislead Canadaˈs public opinion from the robocalls scandal.ˈ Araqchi added that accusing Tehran by Ottawa was an example of the latterˈs projection in the field of foreign policy. ˈResorting to projection by Canadian government would never clear it from being accountable to its public opinion regarding the robocalls scandal,ˈ said the spokesman. He stressed that Ottawa had no right to accuse other countries while it had a history of violating basic democratic rights of its minorities including the Canadian aborigins./end
