Rohani Continues Leading Rivals

Tehran, June 15, IRNA – The latest results of Iranˈs presidential election vote counting Saturday showed that Hassan Rohani is still widely ahead of his rivals winning 5,003,633 votes in the 11th presidential election held Friday. According to the eighth statement issued by the election headquarters of the Interior Ministry, the results were gained from votes counted in 18,180 polling stations. The latest results of the vote counts are as follows: Hassan Rohani: 5,003,633 Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf: 1,582,724 Mohsen Rezaei: 1,298,597 Saeed Jalili: 1,229,151 Ali Akbar Velayati: 620,908 Mohammad Gharazi: 124,129 Under the election rules, a candidate has to win more than 50 percent of the total votes cast to win outright. A first round winner gaining less than that must compete with the runner-up in a second round a week later. Millions of Iranian voters Friday cast their votes and chose the country’s 11th president as well as their representatives in the city and rural councils. Some 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to vote in the June 14 elections./end
