Rohani To Highlight Iran’s Principled Stance On Global Issues At UN: Pak Senator

Islamabad, Sept 21, IRNA – Pakistani Senator on Friday said that the presence of President Hassan Rohani in the United Nations General Assembly would provide him an opportunity to highlight principled stance of the Islamic Republic on global issues. President Rohani, heading a delegation, will visit New York to attend the 68th UN General Assembly to be attended by senior officials of 193 countries. Talking to IRNA Tahir Hussain Mashhadi said that President Rohani is respected by freedom lovers across the world. “Mr Rohani is a balanced politician having leadership qualities,” he said. He added that during his meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the UNGA, President Rohani would highlight principled stance of the Islamic Republic on global issues. “Iran is the true representative of the Muslim world which has always pursued the path of peace,” said the lawmaker. The parliamentarian said that US must quit the policy of double standards towards Muslim countries. Tahir Hussain said that situation in Syria would be Rohani’s main agenda in discussions with world leaders. “US with the support of al-Qaeda is trying to destabilize Syria,” said the lawmaker, adding that basic objective of Washington which is to create unrest in Syria is to please the Zionist regime. “Iran is a symbol of pride for the whole Muslim world,” he said, adding that Iran has never allowed the West to subvert its territorial integrity and independence. Mashhadi urged West to respect Iran’s peaceful nuclear right enshrined under the UN charter. “Iran is an independent country and has every right to develop peaceful nuclear technology,” he said. Expressing views on the expected meeting of Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with President Rohani on the margins of the global event, he said that Iran and Pakistan are tied in the eternal bond of friendship. “They are close historically and religiously,” he said. The senator said that the two leaders would definitely discuss the significant Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project in their meeting. “This is a lifeline project for Pakistan and should be completed as early as possible to overcome our energy woes,” said the political leader. Iran is the neighbor which has always helped Pakistan, he noted./end
