Rohani: Iran Origin Of WAVE Resolution Deliberately Ignored

Tehran, Dec 24, IRNA – Initiator of recent anti-violence UN General Assembly resolution, President Hassan Rohani, said that Iran’s key role in being the standard bearer of the anti-terrorism, anti-extremism international wave is faced with a silence plot. President Rohani had in his address at the UN annual General Assembly highlighted the dire need for establishment of an international coalition against terrorism and extremism, dubbed World against Violence and Extremism. Rohani who was addressing his cabinet ministers’ Sunday session added that he did not initially expect the initiative to receive such a broad-scale international welcome so soon, adding that event Israel, despite its opposition, did not dare to vote against the resolution due to the existence of the international consensus in its favor. “The message of this resolution, which is so enthusiastically welcomed internationally today, is the Iranian nation’s call for adopting a moderate approach, chanted by them during the August 15th Iranian presidential election,” said the president. Rohani said that the Islamic Republic of Iran thus gained another success at the international scene despite the opposite will of the racist-Zionists, making the opponents’ plot aimed at segregation of Iran face defeat. He considered the resolution in question as a victory not only for his government, but also for the Iranian nation and the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, expressing hope to be witness to the success and pride of the Iranian nation also in other scenes. The Islamic Republic president said that the message of this resolution is the message of love for all, which is the main message of Islam’s Grand Prophet Muhammad (P). It is our duty to present the authentic peace-loving image of Islam and Iran to the world nation in direct contrast with the image that the enemies have shown of them and this resolution provided a desirable opportunity in that respect for Iran, he said. The United Nations overwhelmingly voted on on Wednesday December 18 to adopt an Iranian authored resolution that calls on nations across the globe to denounce violence and extremism. The UN General Assembly voted by consensus to approve the “World against Violent Extremism” (WAVE) Act, against all types of terrorism, including state-sponsored terrorism. Iran’s WAVE Act urges member nations to take “appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace and to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character.” It also encourages “respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction of any kind such as to race, color, sex, language, religion, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status.” Iran also asks that member states refrain “from the threat or use of force.” Israel was the lone voice to raise objections to the measure./end
