Rohani: Iran Welcomes Expansion Of Ties With Japan

Tehran, Sept 9, IRNA – President Hassan Rohani on Sunday said that the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the firm determination of Japanese government for expansion of relations with Iran. Rohani made the remarks in a meeting with Japanese envoy to Tehran Masahiko Komura. In the meeting, the Japanese envoy submitted a written message from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to President Hassan Rohani. Welcoming the warm message of the Japanese premier, President Rohani said the new Iranian government is determined to broaden relations with all friendly countries. Iran believes that all international issues such as Iranian nuclear dispute with the Western governments should be resolved within international rules and regulations, Rohani said. Iran abides by the international rules such as Non-Proliferation Treaty and that all Iranian nuclear sites are placed under supervision of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Referring to the peaceful nature of Iranian nuclear program, he said that Iran and Japan have suffered a lot from slaughter resulting from use of nuclear weapons. Iran and Japan are victims of chemical weapons, said the Iranian president adding that the two countries can herald campaign against weapons of mass destruction. The Islamic Republic of Iran is quite confident that Japan as a big industrial and powerful country in Asia never lets a third country to sabotage its relations with Iran, Rohani said. Welcoming the active presence of Japanese investors in the Iranian industry mainly in oil and gas industry, he expressed the hope that the current visit of the Japanese envoy to bring about more economic cooperation. The two sides also discussed regional developments. On regional developments, Rohani said acting in line with the international rules and regulations should be the criterion and any intervention mainly the military ones is against international norms and will destabilize the entire region. He warned that any unilateral military action against a sovereign state run counter to international law. The Japanese envoy said for his part that he was pleased with the current visit to Tehran and expressed the hope to witness more progress and economic development in Iran under the wise performance of the new Iranian government. The Japanese government is determined to broaden relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran more than before, said the Japanese envoy./end
