Rohani-Obama Probable Meet To Be Historic – UN Spokesman

New York, Sept 23, IRNA – Martin Nesirky, spokesperson for the United Nations secretary-general has said probable meeting between presidents of Iran and the United States in New York would be a sensitive and historic event. In a recent exclusive interview with IRNA at the UN headquarters, Nesirky commented on reports on a possible meeting between Hassan Rohani and Barack Obama on the sidelines of the 68th meeting of the UN General Assembly. If both presidents decided to hold a meeting, that would be a highly influential, sensitive and historic event which would top the world news, Nesirky said. He added that such a meeting could possibly be held on the sidelines of the UN secretary general’s dinner banquet on Tuesday. According to Nesirky any possible meeting between the two presidents would have enormous effects on regional and international developments. The spokesman said that meeting of the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the UN chief Ban Ki-moon was influential and important. He expressed hope that President Rohani’s meeting with the secretary general would be more constructive. The UNGA would be held on Tuesday in the presence of heads of state from 193 world countries at the UN headquarters. President Rohani is also to attend the General Assembly meeting heading a high-ranking delegation. While in New York, Rohani is to address the UNGA, meet with the US-based Iranians and hold separate meetings with his counterparts from other countries./end
