Rohani: We Bow In Respect Before People’s Great Epic

Tehran, June 17, IRNA – President-elect Hassan Rohani emphasized here Sunday need for bowing in respect before the great epic that the people have created, considering people’s move in creation of June 14th epic as a beginning for change in line with their will in various fields. Hojjatoleslam Rohani made the remark in a meeting with media reporters Sunday night after paying homage at the holy shrine of the late Imam Khomeini (P). Rohani added, “On Saturday night (last night) after the official announcement of the election results, since the nation had achieved its exalted political objective and created a political epic, we were witnesses to the enthusiastic presence and happiness of the people throughout the country.” He said, “Today, too, I went to visit the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei) and congratulated the nation’s victory to his eminence.” Hojjatoleslam Rohani reiterated, “In meeting with the Supreme Leader of the Revolution his eminence had guidelines about various issue and I, too, had some points which were made.” The president-elect added, “After the meeting with the Supreme Leader I came here to the late holy shrine of the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (P) to renew covenant with him.” Rohani added, “Imam Khomeini (P) was the harbinger of prestige and grandeur for our nation and for the Islamic world.” He once more referred to the materializing of June 14th political epic, reiterating, “The people’s political enthusiasm and vivaciousness at the ballot boxes was at such a level that made the world politicians bow in respect before the grandeur of the Iranian nation.” Rohani said that the people’s participation in the elections was assign of their movement aimed at achieving national objectives. On Friday election, Rowhani secured 18,613,329 votes and was elected as Iran’s new president. He will officially take office on August 3 after taking oath and receiving a decree from Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamene’ie. Rowhani will succeed incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as the seventh president of the Islamic Republic of Iran./end
