Rouhani Adding Hope, Vitality To Iran-US Ties: Expert

New York, Oct 8, IRNA – Retired American diplomat John Limbert says President Hassan Rouhani has added hope and vitality to Tehran-Washington relations. Talking to IRNA, he said the cultivated language and the fresh tone of the Iranian president is warmly received by the world. According to the former staff of US embassy in Tehran, 34 years of pessimistic attitudes have created a bitter atmosphere of unjustified animosity between Iran and the US. He said politicians from both sides had grown being used to showing harsh reactions and bitter rhtetoric during the long period. However, Limbert added, thanks to the new atmosphere prevailing the Tehran-Washington ties during the past year such attitudes are starting to disappear. There are now less harsh and intriguing mottos which used to hinder the proximity between the two countries, he said. Limbert believed this in itself indicated a change in the political atmosphere prevailing the ties between Iran and the US. He said that the new atmosphere paves the way for further serious attempts to solve Tehran-Washington problems. Saying that people should not expect ultimate removal of all problems in the blink of an eye, he commented that the nuclear talks, despite its ups and downs, have to lead to an agreement and peace between the two nations. Also referring to the threat of the terrorist group of Daesh in the Middle East, Limbert said the emergence and growth of terrorism in the region undoubtedly endangers interests of both countries. This common threat, he added, compels them to put aside their differences and cooperate to safeguard their interests. Turning to Iran's nuclear talks, he said the majority of differences between negotiating sides relate to political and cultural issues rather than technical and technological ones. He said certain parties in both countries are using certain political considerations to create a big obstacle on the way of reaching an agreement./end
