Russia’s actions ensure Syria’s unity, says Lebanese president

MOSCOW, March 26. /TASS/. Russia’s actions have made it possible to preserve Syria’s unity and ensure the tranquility in that Arab country, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said in an exclusive interview with TASS First Deputy Director General Mikhail Gusman. "Russia has ensured Syria’s tranquility and unity thanks to the war on terror, " the president stressed. "Now we need to find the balance of forces, which will preserve stability." He pointed to the activities of the Joint Coordination Center for Repatriation of Syrian Refugees set up by Russia and Lebanon. "It is essential to make sure that Syrians return to normal life in their homes," Aoun added. According to official data, the number of Syrian refugees who moved to Lebanon’s territory during the conflict exceeds 1.5 mln. Abbas Ibrahim, head of Lebanon’s General Security Directorate, said in late December that 110,000 people had returned to Syria since July with the assistance of the Lebanese authorities. Read more
