Russia’s foreign minister says there is good basis for cooperation with Iraq

MOSCOW, October 23. /TASS/. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said there is good basis for military and technical cooperation with Iraq. "We have stated that there is good basis for the development of bilateral cooperation, including political dialogue, economic cooperation, as well as in the areas of military and technical cooperation and education," Russia’s top diplomat said at a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari on Monday. "Al-Jaafari has shown appreciation for the opportunity to raise the number of grants for Iraqi citizens willing to get an education in Russia," he added. "Those and other issues related to our bilateral relations will be considered in detail on Tuesday at the meeting of the Iraqi Foreign Minister and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who are co-heads of the Russian-Iraqi commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation," Lavrov said. He added that the upcoming meeting would also focus on implementation of agreements reached at the sixth meeting of the commission in Baghdad last February. Read more
