MOSCOW, December 8. /TASS/. Members of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Scientific Council believe the basic principles of the Russian foreign policy philosophy are fundamental and require no radical revision, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday following the council’s meeting chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. "The participants in the meeting expressed the view that the basic principles defining Russia’s foreign policy philosophy are strategic, fundamental and do not require any radical revision," the ministry said. "At the same time, adequate consideration of profound changes taking place in the world is needed in the context of increased competition on determining the parameters of a new international system." The Russian Foreign Ministry noted that a special emphasis during the meeting had been placed "on the implementation of tasks outlined by Russian President Vladimir Putin to consolidate international efforts in the interests of creating a broad anti-terror front." The participants also discussed the most effective ways of implementing Russia’s foreign policy. "Representatives of academic circles were unanimous in the opinion that the country’s independent consistent foreign policy based on international law and aimed at the joint search for answers to the modern challenges is a major factor in strengthening the global security and stability contributing to more just and democratic international relations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
