Russia’s Lavrov says will have meeting with Kerry in Vienna on Tuesday

MOSCOW, June 29. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday he was expected hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Vienna on Tuesday. "Our delegation is leaving for Vienna today again where talks with Kerry should be held tomorrow," he said. "We’ll keep you updated on their progress." Lavrov also said Kerry and he were going to discuss the pooling of efforts in the struggle with the Islamic State grouping. "This is not an impromptu theme," he said. "In all of our contacts we urge our partners to stop ignoring the huge threat that violent extremism carries in itself." "We point out a risky character of flirting with the radicals and extremists in order to resolve petty fly-by-night objectives," Lavrov said. "History knows a multitude of examples where such flirting would return in the form of a heavy blood-stained boomerang." "Vladimir Putin discussed the issue last week with Barack Obama by telephone," he said. "We call attention to the community of Russian and U.S. interests, as well as the interest of all other countries in what concerns the frustrating of the IS extremists’ plans." "The Russian and U.S. Presidents has asked Secretary Kerry and me to hold an urgent meeting for an exchange of opinions on how the two countries could unite their own efforts and the efforts of other countries more efficiently," Lavrov said. "With account of results of our talks the Russian and American delegations are going to Vienna now," he said. Read more
