Russia against using MH17 crash investigation for political purposes - Ryabkov

MOSCOW, August 28 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is not seeking to use the investigation of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, crashed over Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, for political purposes, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with magazine International Affairs which was posted on the website of the country’s Foreign Ministry on Thursday. “I have no prejudice who can deal with this issue. It is important for us that our representatives will be included in a corresponding group,” he said. “It is more important to understand what is now happening with the investigation itself. We seek to establish the truth,” Ryabkov said. “It seems to us Russia is mostly interested in it [the investigation]. We hope that we’ll be able to complete the investigation in cooperation with the Dutch and the Malaysian partners with whom we maintained a substantive dialogue from the very beginning,” he said. He expressed hope that the unique experience and knowledge in investigating air tragedies help work professionally and substantively by avoiding politicisation. “That is why Russia insisted corresponding provisions be included in U.N. Security Council Resolution 2166 that provided a legal foundation for this work,” Ryabkov said. Learn more on itar-tass.com
