Russia and China interested in normalization in Afghanistan - Lavrov

BEIJING, April 29. /TASS/. Russia and China are interested in the normalization of the situation in Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday after a meeting with Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi. "We also discussed the situation in and around Afghanistan," Lavrov said. "Our two countries are very interested in turning the developments to the path of normalizing the situation there, to the path of the national conciliation promotion." Lavrov said that Afghanistan is a very important partner both for Russia and China. "We believe that the possibilities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in assisting normalization of the situation in that country should be still actively employed," the Russian foreign minister said. "SCO is a unique format in which Afghanistan and all its neighbors are actively working as members." Read more
