Russia and Cuba insist on political settlement of Venezuelan crisis - Lavrov

HAVANA, July 24. /TASS/. Moscow and Havana stand for political and diplomatic settlement of the crisis in Venezuela, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday after talks with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla. "We discussed the situation in and around Venezuela," he said. "We share the opinion that any problems related to Venezuela or any other country should be resolved by peaceful, political and diplomatic means on the basis of the United Nations Charter, the principles of respect to sovereignty and non-interference into domestic affairs." "These are the positions we and our Cuban friends are committed to when we take efforts to help create such conditions that would make it possible for the Venezuelans to reach an agreement on hove to get over the current situation. We share the view that the contacts that promote direct dialogue between the government and the opposition should be developed," he said, adding that such contacts should promote dialogue rather than decide about its outcome.
