Russia and Turkey continue active efforts towards normalization in Syria, says Putin

MOSCOW, April 8./TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized active efforts of Moscow and Ankara towards giving a boost to Syria’s political process. "As guarantors of the Astana process, Russia and Turkey continue exerting active and coordinated efforts towards long-term normalization of the situation in that country [Syria]," Putin said in his opening remarks at a session of the Russian-Turkish High-Level Cooperation Council. "We are coordinating activity within the context of bolstering the political process inside Syria, including with an aim of setting up a constitutional committee as soon as possible," Putin said. The Russian leader said he has already discussed with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan key issues in the development of relations in a narrow and the one-on-one format. "We have agreed to continue strengthening bilateral cooperation in the spirit of advanced-level multidimensional partnership," Putin added. Read more
