Russia calls for continuing efforts on settlement in Syria and fight against terrorists - Kremlin spokesman

MOSCOW, April 19. /TASS/. Russia calls for continuing efforts on inter-Syrian settlement in Geneva and on fighting against terrorist organizations on the Syrian territory, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday. "We definitely support continuation of inter-Syrian talks in Geneva," Peskov said commenting on the pause in Geneva talks. He reminded that emphasis on importance of continuing this dialogue and maintaining observance of ceasefire regime in Syria was made in yesterday’s telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Barack Obama. "We understand that the situation at these talks is rather uneasy," the Kremlin spokesman noted. "We also note an uneasy situation in several Syrian settlements where terrorist organizations are making attempts to gain control over some territories," he added answering a question on whether Russia may increase its military contingent in Syria again. "Of course, we think that this should be prevented (seizure of territories by terrorists) and that fight against these terrorist organizations should not stop," he concluded. Read more
