Russia calls for Iraq’s unity and territorial integrity - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW, October 18. /TASS/. Russia calls for preserving Iraq’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity and for resolving domestic crises through an inclusive political dialogue that will take into account the interests of the country’s all ethnic and confessional groups, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday. The statement was released after a meeting of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, Presidential Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov and Iraqi Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor Faleh al-Fayad. "The Russian side has emphasized Russia’s firm support for the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of friendly Iraq and confirmed its principled position so as to resolve the intra-Iraqi problems with the help of inclusive political dialogue, taking into consideration the interests of all the ethnic and confessional groups of the country," the Russian Foreign Ministry said. In the meantime, the Iraqi politician accentuated the importance of Russia’s assistance in the struggle against terrorism in the Middle East. "As Faleh al-Fayad noted, Baghdad highly appreciates Russia’s persistent policy regarding Iraq and is set to enhance interaction in the war on terror, including in Syria," says the document posted on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s website following the meeting.
