Russia, China seek to form Asia-Pacific collective security system — defense minister

BEIJING, November 18. /TASS/. Pooling effort military agencies of Russia and China seek to form a collective regional security system in the Asia-Pacific region, visiting Russian Defence Minister General Sergey Shoigu said after talks with Chinese counterpart Colonel General Chang Wanquan in Chinese capital on Tuesday. “We believe that the main goal of pooling our effort is to shape a collective regional security system,” Shoigu said. Ways to combat new challenges and threats to security in the Asia-Pacific region and “making transparency of military activity higher” was noted at talks, he noted. The two defence ministers agreed to continue co-operation in the fight against international terrorism on a bilateral basis and within the Shanghai Co-operation Organisation (SCO). In this regard, the heads of Russian and Chinese military agencies noted that anti-terrorism military exercises Peace Mission held regularly were effective. Read more
