Russia confident that all signatories to Iran nuclear deal will fulfill their obligations - envoy to UN

UNITED NATIONS, September 16. /TASS/. Russia does not doubt that all signatories to the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program will scrupulously fulfill their obligations, Russia’s Envoy to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said on Tuesday. Talking about intermediate results of the deal between Tehran and P5+1 group of countries (five permanent members of UN Security Council and Germany), Churkin said that Moscow closely follows the process of consideration of the agreement in legislative bodies of the United States and Iran. "We hope that everything ends well, without disruptions," Churkin told the UN Security Council session. The diplomat reminded that October 18 is the so-called "enter into force day", after which Tehran will start implementing practical measures on aligning its nuclear program to the commitments in the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The United States and European members of the P5+1 group will start preparing a legislative base for lifting their unilateral sanctions against Iran. "We do not have any reasons to doubt that all sides will scrupulously fulfill their obligations," Churkin stressed. He noted that Russia, together with Iran, takes preparation measures "on those parts of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action that envisages implementation of bilateral Russian-Iranian projects, in particular, on establishing production of stable isotopes at Fordow [Iranian nuclear facility] and transporting Iranian low-enriched uranium out of the country." On 14 July 2015, the P5+1 group of international mediators (five permanent members of UN Security Council - US, UK, Russia, China, France - and Germany) and Iran signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Tehran’s nuclear program. Iran will not produce weapons-grade plutonium and limit its stockpile of uranium enriched to 3.67 percent to 300 kilograms for the next 15 years. Tehran also agreed to modernize its nuclear facilities and use them for exclusively peaceful purposes. Sanctions will be gradually removed from Iran. The arms embargo imposed by UN Security Council will be kept in place for five years, ban for supplying ballistic missile technologies to Iran - for eight years. Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will monitor nuclear facilities in Iran for the next 25 years. If any points of the agreement are violated by Iran, sanctions against the country will be renewed. On July 20, the corresponding resolution on Iran’s nuclear program agreement was adopted by UN Security Council. Read more
