Russia draws attention of APEC ministerial meeting to cyber security problems - top diplomat

DA NANG /Vietnam/, November 8. /TASS/. Russia paid a special attention to cyber security issues at the APEC Ministerial Meeting, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Wednesday. "We drew attention here to such an information security aspect as provision of free information access combined with suppression of attempts to abuse information technologies, including for criminal and sometimes terroristic purposes," he said. Lavrov reiterated that Russia suggested developing universal rules for behavior in cyberspace and submitted the corresponding initiative to the UN a few years ago. "I hope that in the conditions when real threats of abusing social media and information technologies overall are common for everyone and are becoming more and more tangible, this issue will attract additional attention of all states both in the APEC and, on a bigger scale, in the UN," he added. Lavrov is attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting of foreign and trade ministers on Wednesday. The meeting is closed. Read more
