Russia, Egypt discuss counterterrorism, air traffic security

CAIRO, January 29. /TASS/. Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and Egyptian officials have discussed full reinstitution of air traffic between Russia and Egypt, counterterrorism, control over non-governmental organizations, as well as the situation in the Middle East and Africa, Patrushev’s press secretary informed on the outcomes of talks held in Cairo. The Russian security chief met with special advisors to the Egyptian president Faiza Abou el-Naga, Magdy Abdel Ghaffar and Ahmed Gamal El Din. "The parties have discussed issues of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Egypt on the counterterrorism front, including the objectives on blocking terrorism funding channels and deepening the cooperation between law enforcement agencies," the press secretary noted. "They have touched upon the problem of "color revolutions" and the lawful regulation of non-governmental organizations, as well as the cooperation in the sphere of information security, military and military-technical partnerships," he added. "During the discussion of the reinstatement of air traffic between Russia and Egypt, Patrushev stressed the need to continue to cooperate closely, using the accumulated experience to improve air security in the Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh airports." The officials also discussed the realization of several joint economic projects. "Besides, they exchanged opinions on the situation in North Africa and the Middle East," the press secretary stated. "Patrushev stressed that Russia sees Egypt as its key partner in the region, noting close cooperation with Egyptian colleagues on international platforms." Read more
